What a Drag! Excessive Sweating is not COOL.
We all sweat
when good things happen
(you find out your crush has a crush on you, too!) or bad (think,
pop quiz or telling your dad you dented the car!) its
a fact of life. In fact, we NEED to sweat to keep our body
temperatures from going haywire from stress, excitement, activity,
etc. But, if you think you sweat more than your friends, youre
not alone. According to the International Hyperhidrosis Society,
nearly 14 million teens feel that their perspiration is a problem;
but they dont talk to their parents about it. The
embarrassing waterworks makes them feel as if they smell, weakens
their confidence level or even keeps them from wearing some of
their favorite clothes!
While you may think you are actually sweating a lot, in most
cases, it is pretty normal. The average person perspires
about a quart of sweat per day next time you look in your
refrigerator at a quart of milk, youll get the idea.
There is an actual medical condition called axillary hyperhidrosis
(excessive underarm sweating), however, this only affects a small
group of people, so chances are likely that what you are going
through normal body changes, pimples, growing a few inches
or sprouting hair!
For those with excessive perspiration
or those who feel they sweat too much, there is help available
. When a regular deodorant or antiperspirant isnt cutting
it, ask your parents if you can try Mon Ray Antiperspirant. The
strongest antiperspirant available, it is applied at night as
needed before bedtime.
No matter how much or little you sweat,
if it bothers you and your self-esteem, you can do something
about it. When you have your next check-up at your doctor, make
sure to mention your concern about sweating so he or she can
rule out axillary hyperhidrosis. If you are changing your
shirts throughout the day to avoid embarrassing wet stains, this
could be the reason, so you should talk to your parents, too.
